Preventative Dentistry
A toothbrush used to be the only tool in fighting tooth decay and gum disease. Now preventive checkups, tooth cleaning, sealants, oral cancer screening, and fluoride treatments are all available to our patients. Healthy teeth and gums aren’t a luxury. They provide self-confidence and peace of mind. Quality preventive care can give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of—in fewer appointments.
Periodontal Disease
Most patients who visit our office have some degree of periodontal, or gum disease. It’s not that they’re less careful about their oral hygiene. Gum disease is often the result of factors like stress or hormonal changes. That’s why we go over your health history and the medications you’re taking. We X-ray to see if there is bone loss, measure movement in or around your teeth, and look for the bad types of bacteria in your mouth. Only then can we personalize a plan that gets treatment started as soon as possible. Once the disease gets started, there’s no time to lose in keeping it in check.
Diagnodent®
Our office uses a new diagnostic laser system that provides an earlier and more dependable diagnosis of decay than old-fashioned probing. It’s non-invasive and very accurately records the presence and depth of a cavity. Because we can determine decay earlier than ever before, we can minimize the filling needed to solve the problem. And when it comes to cavity repair, less is always more: more tooth structure is preserved, more time and money is saved. Plus, we have a clearer picture of your ongoing dental health.
Restorative
When a tooth is lost, the entire balance of a mouth is compromised. Restorative dentistry is the art of bringing mouths back into balance and function. There are many tools that help us bring back your dental health and your smile:
- Tooth-colored fillings or composite fillings: used instead of amalgam (silver) fillings in back molar areas when decay is detected. They’re virtually invisible—and stronger.
- Bridges: partnered with crowns to remove gaps left by missing teeth.
- Partial Dentures: dependent on remaining teeth for support, but secured by precision attachments.
- Full Dentures: can provide a full complement of teeth and contribute to a youthful profile as well
- Implants: the newest remedy to replace a single tooth or support an over denture. As secure as a natural rooted tooth.
Dental Implants
Implants are a remarkable achievement in dental science. They are permanent restorations anchored in the jaw just like your own teeth. Most people who want dental implants need to steady a shifty denture, or bridge a gap due to lost teeth. Whether as a single-tooth implant, or implants for the entire jaw, dental implants can be an attractive and long-lasting alternative to fixed bridges or partial dentures.
Crowns and Bridge, Inlays/Onlays
If you have a mouth full of old crowns and bridges, think about replacing them with metal-free restorations. Thanks to amazing advances in modern dentistry, we can replace worn or ill-fitting (or simply unattractive) crowns and bridges with beautiful new restorations. They can be color-matched to your natural teeth and reflect the same kind of translucence. And new restorations are just as tough as natural teeth so they can even be used on molars.
Dentures
You have a friend who has a beautiful healthy smile and one day you find out she wears dentures. You never guessed! Welcome to the new world of dentures. Our patients with dentures know that they are lucky to be able to take advantage of new advances in materials, fit and coloration. If you’ve been wearing your dentures for five years or more, its time to have them checked. You should be able to “wear them and forget them” until someone comments on your beautiful smile.
TMJ
Millions of people suffer from TMJ and don’t realize that the dentist is the one person who can help relieve their pain. Most often, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder takes the form of head, neck and backaches. But other symptoms include earaches, dizziness, difficulty swallowing, click and popping when you chew. And it usually starts with jaw misalignment. Now treatment is available for those suffering from TMJ. We can realign and reduce pressure on the jaw and reduce or even eliminate pain. Call us for help in diagnosing and treating TMJ disorders.
Cosmetic
Take a look in the mirror right now. What cosmetic enhancement would make a real difference in your smile? Are there gaps to be filled, or dark teeth? Chips, cracks or an uneven shape? Are those old metal fillings tired and unsightly? Does your smile reflect the real you!
New materials and techniques are now available to give you the cosmetic look that’s perfect for you, and you alone. Composites are stronger, porcelains are easier to fit and finish, translucency is more lifelike. Thanks to advances in computer technology, the tiniest differences in size, shape, texture, and color can be designed to blend in with your existing teeth.
Veneers
Veneers are an extraordinary, yet simple way to hide a multitude of “smile sins.” With a thin, semi-transparent bonded shell, veneers improve the color and translucence of teeth stained by early tetracycline use, or years of drinking coffee and tea. They can fix chips and reshape your not-so-perfect smile. State-of-the-art porcelain veneers have only become available in recent years, and are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments we offer. The results are remarkable: a cosmetically superior finish that looks and feels natural. We like to call veneers “instant orthodontics.”
Inlays and Onlays
Another technique for brightening the entire mouth is the placement of tooth-colored inlays or onlays where metal fillings were once the material of choice. Especially in the molars at the back of the mouth, cavities and broken teeth are beveled to receive natural-colored materials. These materials are almost invisible to the eye. Most importantly, the tooth becomes strong and whole again.
Bonding
Bonding has restored beautiful new smiles to many of our patients. If you have chipped teeth, or want to change the shape, color or size of a tooth to match other teeth, bonding can be the solution. New materials make possible any number of alterations to imperfections of the “smile line”—the curve of your smile. Actually, bonding is a kind of dental sculpture that can produce truly beautiful results. You’ll see the difference every time you look in the mirror.
Special Services
If you’re not comfortable going to the dentist, you won’t get the care you need. That’s why your comfort is a priority. You may have had an unpleasant experience in the past, but you should know that dentistry has changed dramatically, even in the last few years. Our equipment is quieter, and faster. Your appointment goes quickly, and our dental team is very responsive to your particular needs. We’ll find a way to make you comfortable so that you leave our office with a smile.
Children
We’re delighted to welcome children to our office and are skilled in our gentle approach with them. We want them to grow up with a firm trust in us, and the sense that visits here are beneficial—even fun! Before your child’s first appointment, we’ll walk you through the exam, so you’ll know what to expect. That way, “going to the dentist” will become second nature to the both of you. Children are special patients, so we take special care with them.
